CONTRACTOR MEMBER
Award-winning project
Among C.D. Perry’s most notable projects is the Hudson River
Seawall/Green Island Condo project, which was named one of the
Pile Driving Contractor Association’s Projects of the Year for 2018.
The project involved transforming an abandoned oil terminal
in Green Island, N.Y. into a luxury condominium site encompassing
a marina, restaurant and performing arts amphitheater. For its
part of the project, C.D. Perry installed permanent sheeting for the
amphitheater construction and installed 525 timber piles for a new
seawall that was being built.
Fane notes a huge challenge on the project was driving pile into
what was a “mixed bag” of underlying soils.
“We were dealing with native soil, imported soil and God knows
what else that was brought to the site,” he said. “I believe the fact
that we got the job done ahead of schedule during some harsh
winter conditions is a testament to why we were named a Project
of the Year.”
C.D. Perry employs about 50 people in peak season. Fane says
this includes a versatile group of DOT- and AWS-certified pile drivers
and welders as well as highly efficient crane operators.
Fane points out that the current owners of the company, Jack
Perry (who is Cutler Perry’s son) and his wife Cynthia, have accumulated
a wealth of knowledge during their many years in the
construction business. He adds that some of the senior project
managers and estimators at C.D. Perry have up to 40 years of construction
experience.
Fane, who is 29, notes the company also has numerous younger
managers, tradespeople and support staff who mesh well with
senior managers and workers and benefit hugely from their experience.
He believes they also provide a fresh perspective and new
ideas on how C.D. Perry should move forward.
