Legacy Contracting has also constructed bridges for a number
of private interests, including Amazon, Nike and Intel.
Howell says that while his company does some driven pile
work on a subcontract basis, its forte is completing a job from
start to finish.
“We’re essentially a turnkey operation when it comes to
building bridges,” he said. “Not only do we install piling, but
we also do the concrete work and basically anything else that’s
required, except for paving.”
Most of the projects Legacy Contracting takes on are in
Oregon and the neighbouring states of Washington and Idaho.
“Most of the bridges that are designed here in the Pacific
Northwest either have a steel pile foundation or a drilled shaft
foundation,” said Howell. “For these projects, we’ll do all of
the pile installation if it’s steel. If a drilled shaft foundation is
required, then we’ll subcontract that out to another company.”
For some bridge projects, Howell’s firm will also drive
piles for temporary work bridges and other falsework support
structures.
The steel pipe piles installed by Legacy Contracting crews
typically range from 12 to 24 inches in diameter and can go up
to 42 inches in diameter, according to Howell.
In addition to driving steel piles, Legacy Contracting
crews are also called on to install sheet piling, particularly for
marine projects but also for bridge projects where sheet piles
are used to protect bridge abutments.

by his company involves building docks and dolphin
