and entertainment, 350 hotel rooms and up to 1,550 residential
units. The initial phase of the project consists of construction site
work, infrastructure improvements, and structural foundation systems
for future vertical development.
“For the District at South Bay, we installed 2,230 each 14-inch
and 16-inch square concrete piles driven into a contaminated
landfill,” said Bird.
“All personnel on this site had to have 40-hour Hazwopper
training. During the pile installation process, a displacement hole
was drilled through the existing landfill and a 16-inch square concrete
pile was driven into the native soil,” he said. “Throughout
this process, environmental inspectors were on site monitoring
methane levels and applying foam to mitigate these levels if they
exceeded the threshold. We were able to not only install these piles
successfully with three pile driving rigs, but also overcome the
logistical challenges of delivering the piles from 50 miles outside
the Los Angeles area to Carson. Overall, there are over 30 miles of
pile installed on this project.”

doesn’t miss a beat.

As a young company still in “growth mode,” Bird, Redman and
Sammons plan on continuing to grow, while keeping within a size
that’s profitable and manageable. Forefront Deep Foundations is
also a new PDCA member, having joined this past August.
