On this project, driven pile, both
old and new, are playing a crucial role
in supporting critical infrastructure at the
South Carolina Port Authority (SCPA)
in Charleston. The newly opened Panama
Canal is open for business and port authorities
along the U.S. Eastern Seaboard are in
“upgrade” mode – rehabilitating existing
wharfs and piers to accept these new, larger
vessels.
Testing of in-situ piles under the existing
wharf proved the incredible durability of
decades-old PSC piles, in a very demanding
environment. Not only that, but the durability
of these piles ended up saving SCPA
substantial time and money.
