Industry Ambassador Award

John T. Parker, Jr., was only 50 when he
passed away in 2015, but his outstanding
character and passion for the pile
driving industry left an indelible mark.
For the past three years, PDCA has
honored his memory with the John T.
Parker, Jr. Industry Ambassador Award,
presented to an association member who
positively impacts the pile driving community
through their own passion and promotion
of driven piles.
Bill Marczewski, P.E., was named this
year’s winner at the PDCA 21st Annual
International Conference and Expo in
Amelia Island, Fla.
“I was honored to receive the award and
it has been fun getting to know the members
of PDCA by working for them,” said
Marczewski, principal and founding engineer
of BSM Engineering, a West Coastbased
consulting firm providing seismic
structural engineering, deep foundation
design and testing and waterfront marine
engineering services.
A graduate of Washington State
University with a Bachelor of Science in
Civil Engineering (Geotechnical and
Structural), Marczewski has 20-plus years
of experience in the pile driving industry
and has served as PDCA treasurer for the
past five years.
Marczewski says he had no idea he was
up for the honor.
“I was surprised,” he explained. “I’m
on the executive committee of the board of
directors and it’s hard to keep things a secret
from me, but they did.”
Parker was a beloved industry veteran
who was vice president of Parker
Marine Contracting in Charleston, S.C. He
was also a former president of the South
Carolina Chapter of PDCA.
“John Parker accomplished a lot in
his life and he cared deeply about a lot of
things – his family, Parker Marine, his
employees and his friends – and he cared
about the industry he worked in for 29
years,” said Steve Hall, executive director
of PDCA. “John was an ambassador for
