Buck Darling Receives Presidential
Award for Distinguished Service
By Mark Halsall
Buck Darling has received PDCA’s
Presidential Award for Distinguished
Service, established in 2008
to honor individuals who have advanced the
association through valuable personal and
professional service.
Darling, who is president of Herbert
F. Darling Inc., was awarded the honor
at the PDCA 21st Annual International
Conference and Expo in Amelia Island,
Fla. PDCA president Dave Chapman says
he selected Darling in recognition of everything
he’s done for and continues to do for
the association.
“Buck’s heart and soul has always
been in PDCA,” said Chapman. “He’s just
been a real go-to person for anything that
you need.”
The Presidential Award for
Distinguished Service recognizes ongoing,
long-term and significant contributions
to PDCA and the pile driving industry
through an individual’s effective leadership,
support and participation.
Darling, whose company joined the
association in 2006, served on the PDCA
board for five years (including as president
and vice president) and is a past chair
of the PDCA Safety and Environmental
Committee.
As a board member, Darling
helped develop the PDCA Pile Driving
Professionals Development Course. He has
worked with fellow association member Pat
Hannigan to deliver this course to PDCA
members as well as a contractor located in
Kansas – redesigning the curriculum to suit
the needs of the chapter or contractor.
Darling is also a member of the PDCA
Ad Hoc Committee to develop the curriculum
for the Engineer’s Driven Pile Institute.
