JD Fields owns and maintains both a free trade zone and bonded
warehouses in Houston designed for restricted steel products.
Since it was founded by Jerry Fields in 1985, the company has
been built on a diversified distribution model, supplying API line
pipe to the oil and gas industry and steel piling systems for civil
infrastructure foundations. To date, JD Fields has delivered millions
of tons of pipe andpiling to its markets.
Jay Fields, Jerry’s son, has served as the company’s president
and COO since 2018.
New venture to accelerate path
to increased manufacturing
JD Fields has had an exclusive partnership for 10 years with HDM
Steel Pipe in Turkey, as one of that company’s only two clients
globally. JD Fields is the sole distributor for HDM products in the
North and South American markets. This long alliance has built “a
relationship of trust,” said Dean Abbondanza, director, Engineering
and Business Development for JD Fields, and interest in exploring
further opportunities to work together.
Both JD Fields and HDM wanted to expand the relationship,
says Abbondanza. Now, through a 50-50 joint venture, they plan
to do that, joining to build a spiral weld mill in Sinton, Texas,
just north of Corpus Christi. This initiative will allow JD Fields to
continue its development as a domestic steel producer and the
broadening of its focus from distribution, a path started with the
company’s May 2020 acquisition of California-based Alameda Pipe
& Steel Company. Its new status as a domestic producer will enable
the company to participate on “Buy American” projects for the federal
and state governments and agencies, significantly enlarging its
potential market in the U.S.
