The Pile Driving Contractors Association’s E.A.L. Smith
Award Lecture will be presented triennially at the
IFCEE conference. The E.A.L. Smith Award Lecture will
be presented to an individual who has demonstrated
creative and original work that helped the driven pile
industry provide an economical, sustainable, effective
and environmentally conscious foundation solution. The
creativity can be demonstrated in the
form of innovative foundation design,
manufacturing, installation or construction
procedures that led to highly efficient and
resource-sensible driven pile solutions.

foundations. Gerwick had a 62-year professional career
as a contractor, educator and construction engineer.
