“This is something we really excel at due
to our extensive experience on jobsites and
encountering unique obstacles, challenges
and hurdles,” he added. “This allows us
provide a level of insight into the means and
methods that result in higher productivity
and cost savings for customers, which may
not be immediately apparent.”
Hogencamp feels one of the best
things about working at HPSI is the
company culture and focus on producing
quality products.
“We're really proud of our quality control,
level of craftsmanship and the company
culture we have built here,” he said.
Terwilliger says that everyone at
GeoQuip and HPSI are important to the
company’s success, but he acknowledges
three team members in particular
who deserve special recognition – Matt
Williams, GeoQuip’s vice president of
operations, Chris Lowe, GeoQuip’s vice
president of sales, and Andrew Findlay,
HPSI’s general manager. Williams has been
with the company for 24 years, Lowe for 14
years and Findlay for two years.
“Matt and Chris are constantly lending
their years of expertise to our customers,
whether it is through recommendations
on equipment or suggestions on how to
improve on means and methods that benefit
the project,” said Terwilliger. “Andy brings
his extensive background in manufacturing
and process/design improvement to the
table, and he holds a master’s degree in
mechanical engineering as well as an MBA.”
Safety is paramount
Terwilliger says like everyone else, GeoQuip
has had to make some adjustments in the
way it does business in this COVID-19 era.
We’ve learned to adapt to the pandemic
as best we can while staying safe,” he said.
“It’s absolutely been a challenge, but we’ve
come through it so far and have continued
to grow and have success while supporting
our customers who are building the critical
infrastructure of the country.”
Staying safe, of course, is always top
of mind in the construction industry,
pandemic or not, and it’s why safety has
long been a core value at GeoQuip and HPSI.
Hogencamp says at HPSI, every team
member goes through operational and
safety training specific to the company’s
equipment. It’s also a free service provided
to customers for equipment start-up
on jobsites.
“The extensive training that we
provide to our team and our customers
leads to safer job sites that are also more
productive, and our focus on employee
mentorship, recurrent training and support
serve to reinforce our safety-first culture,”
said Hogencamp. “In our industry, safety is
paramount. We are constantly implementing
new procedures and processes, not only for
our new equipment production line, but for
our rental equipment program as well to
ensure our equipment is in safe operating
condition and ready at all times.”
GeoQuip has belonged to the Pile Driving
Contractors Association for many years
and the benefits, according to Terwilliger,
have been “enormous.”
“PDCA is a great resource to get
together with other folks we've known in
ASSOCIATE MEMBER
the industry for a long time. We can share
ideas, foster existing relationships and get
to know others in the industry that we may
not see regularly,” said Terwilliger.
Hogencamp agrees that PDCA provides
excellent value for members.
“PDCA has a lot of suppliers and
contractors who have been in this industry
for a long time. They understand the ins
and outs of what is required to get different
jobs done, and they have faced a lot of the
challenges you encounter on job sites when
you're working in deep foundations,” he
said. “I think just the wealth of knowledge
that comes with being a member is the
most important thing for us, in addition
to just being a great networking tool full of
like-minded individuals.” t
