RAPID FIRE ❯❯❯
You've achieved success in what's traditionally been a
male-dominated field. What has that been like for you?
WC: One of the reasons why Haley & Aldrich was an appealing
company to work for was because they have a high percentage of
women employees distributed throughout the company, all the
way from intern to the C-suite. That meant a lot to me as someone
entering a company, to see that there were a lot of really powerful
senior project managers and client leaders who were women. I
think it's easier to imagine yourself in a career trajectory when you
see others who are like you in similar positions.
Do you think Haley & Aldrich is unusual in
that respect?
WC: While the industry at large may not totally reflect that same
percentage of women, I do feel like the tide is starting to turn. The
more women that enter the industry, the more visible it is, and I
think that makes it easier for young female engineers entering or
thinking about entering the industry to imagine themselves there.
I also think that in the modern era, there's more sensitivity, more
awareness of some of the issues that may have led to engineering
being a less welcoming environment in the past. I see movement
by many companies and the industry at large to try to rectify and
reverse things to create a more supportive environment for women.
What kind of advice would you give newcomers in
your industry?
WC: Some of the most important things are having good mentors,
from both inside and outside of the company that you want to
work for, and also a strong network of people you can rely on for
support. And don’t ever be afraid to ask questions. t
