for the time and location of the event. The Technical Planning
Committee is comprised of multiple representatives from each
partner organization to manage the technical program agenda
and content. This process alone consumes many hours to collect
abstracts, review papers, select presentations and work with presenters
to produce the final program content.
At the same time, the IFCEE managing partner, ADSC, handles
all logistics, including to secure venue space, create site plans,
work with the show manager and start developing marketing and
promotional material.
Of course, as with all other events over the past year and into
this year, last-minute decisions have had to be made by the partnering
associations. A close eye on local gathering restrictions
and attendee safety as well as company travel restrictions played
a part in the planning process this time. We are pleased that we
have found a happy medium and can still hold this event in person
in Dallas while providing an avenue for some online participation
for those not yet ready or unable to travel and gather. The uncertainty
over the last year actually presented the partners with an
opportunity to enhance the value to IFCEE attendees – we had to
think outside the box and continue to improve how we deliver this
mega-event.
For people who aren’t able to attend in person, are
there ways that they can still participate in some way?
Let’s state very clearly – IFCEE 2021 is being held as originally
planned as an in-person event, but now will include an online
option, which is going to allow for truly global participation. One
positive that stemmed from having to adapt and shift plans over
this past year is that this added online component means IFCEE
2021 will have a worldwide audience more than ever before.
The remote attendance option will allow for online viewing of
sessions and pre-recorded content that can be viewed in addition
to the usual conference proceedings of all technical papers submitted.
All attendees, whether remote or in person, will have access to
the sessions after the week is over for a period of time so they can
view all presentations and earn professional development hours.
It also allows speakers to present from afar and exhibitors to send
their materials for display even if a representative cannot be there
to man the booth.
Of course, we do encourage anyone who can be in Dallas to
attend in person – the networking opportunities at an in-person
event cannot be replicated in an online setting. We’re very much
looking forward to seeing people in Dallas in May. t
