Attenuation
was critical to keeping the project on schedule. One wrong delivery
truck had the potential to shut the crew down and lose a day
on the schedule. To add to the delivery coordination, pile deliveries
were hindered on certain days due to street closures during
San Francisco Giants games at the Oracle Park just 1,000 feet
from the site.
“The site logistics were extremely difficult, limiting production
to one rig and one truck load delivery per day and working
in close proximity to an occupied condominium complex as
well as municipal transportation power lines and trains,” said
Matt Gregory, senior project manager with Hathaway Dinwiddie
Construction Company.
To add to the scheduling challenges, strict noise constraints
only allowed pile installation Monday through Friday, between the
hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. No Saturday work was allowed on
the project. These restraints made daily production critical knowing
there could be no weekend or extended driving hours to make
up for any lack of production during the week.
Because the project site was located on a landfill, obstructions
were a common underground obstacle. Underground obstructions
