EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
A Silver Lining During
a Difficult Time
We are approaching the end
of 2020, and most people
would probably say,
“Good! Let’s get this year over and move on
to 2021.” There seems to be more questions
than answers, and we are in uncertain times
over politics, the economy, health concerns
and social unrest. It all looks bleak. It is
draining at all levels of human existence –
physical, mental, emotional, and it is time
for it, whatever that may be, to end.
Like most businesses and other trade
organizations, the Pile Driving Contractors
Association has dealt with these challenges
head-on. It has been a remarkable year on
so many levels. Everything that affects how
we work, whether we can work and – in no
small degree – determines if the work we
are doing will be successful can be put in
the category of a tsunami, or a category five
hurricane or the mother of all earthquakes.
We have been shaken to our core, or better,
shaken to our deep foundation.
Reading this article’s title might leave the
impression that we want to highlight PDCA’s
25th anniversary, which is undoubtedly a
milestone event. We encourage you to get
a copy of the 2020 issue four of PileDriver
magazine, where you will find an in-depth
review of our 25th anniversary celebration.
However, that is not the point of this
article. The point here is there are some
really good things going on for PDCA during
2020, yes, even during this challenging time.
Our firm intention is that we would not
miss the fact that these good things are
happening because we are so distracted
by all the not-so-good things that are also
happening. The association’s work and
activity don’t stop just because things aren’t
going the way we would like. PDCA did not
close up shop to wait for a better day. PDCA
responded by stepping in and stepping up.
Membership is the foundation for
the organization that we call PDCA, and
members have been showing their support
all through 2020. When the PDCA Board
of Directors determined last year that a
dues increase was necessary to keep the
organization on the right course, the
members responded by renewing their
membership to show their commitment
and support. All during this current year,
previous association members have been
renewing their membership; this is very
significant, especially in light of all that
has been going on. PDCA will continue to
