PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
specify our product and educated contractors
are necessary to see one driven pile
project transition into a second. Kudos to
this team for their efforts this year! This
committee is consistently taking a pulse
on the deep foundations industry and aiming
to provide content that serves to meet
the needs of membership. I have no doubt
that they are already considering the programs
for our 2021 DICEP and 2022 Annual
Conference. Would you consider getting
involved in the Education Committee?
After careful review of the finances
required to fund the work of the association,
the Board of Directors implemented
the dues increase necessary to establish a
sustainable path forward. It’s no surprise
that we lost a few members this year. We
are thankful for those who decided to hang
tight with the association through that
transition, and we’re thankful for those who
have taken a few quarters to consider and
renew. Those who continue to assess have
been moved to the prospect list without
any hard feelings. They’re not lost. They’re
not forgotten. We’re looking forward to having
them back in the pack at the time they
understand the value provided by PDCA
exceeds the number on the sticker. Are
the vision and mission of PDCA something
you’d like to help others recognize?
Would you consider joining the work of the
Membership Committee?
It may come as a surprise to hear that
there are folks out there who would prefer to
see other deep foundation options specified
in lieu of driven piles. As you can imagine,
we need friends working on our behalf to
ensure that the next generation of building
codes and specifications are both fair to the
driven pile and as economically generous
to the driven pile as sound engineering
will allow. The Technical Committee plays
a large part in filling that role for PDCA.

efforts to date with International Building
Code (IBC) revisions; to read the first two
parts of Dale’s story, read issues 3 and 4 of
PileDriver. You’ll get a good review of the IBC
changes the GeoCoalition was able to pass
along with a healthy dose of Dale’s humor.
We will post all three parts of the story on

while you’re on the website, don’t forget to
sign up for Dale’s Annual Conference Series
presentation scheduled for Dec. 2 and
entitled, “Tilting at Windmills: Don Quixote
Meets the International Building Code.”
The PDCA committees, staff, and board
are busy. There’s a lot of valuable activity
taking place in the association, and I hope
you’re taking advantage of all that your
membership affords. As always, my door is
open, and your call is welcome. I’m really
looking forward to seeing your face as soon
as it’s safe to do so. In the interim, stay safe
and stay driven! t
