Tectonic remains very much involved
in the pile driving sector. Besides providing
geotechnical investigations and engineering
recommendations for structural foundation
supports, it offers other support services.
That includes load testing programs
on pile installations as well as inspection,
verification and certification of pile foundations
to ensure compliance with applicable
building codes, including New York City’s
strict construction regulations and licensing
requirements.
What sets Tectonic apart from other
similar companies in the metropolitan New
York area is the fact that it has its own
inspections and materials testing division.
That means it can do its own onsite concrete
and soil testing and then analyze the
results of those tests in one of its own testing
laboratories within a matter of days.
“We’re a little bit unique compared to
some other engineering firms. Most engineering
firms, at least in the metro New
York area, don’t have their own testing
laboratory. The laboratories are generally
standalone businesses,” said Benvie. “It
does attract some clients to us. They look
at it as a value-added service, the fact that
we can do both the inspection and provide
the field personnel to do the inspection, not
just from an engineering standpoint, but we
also have the testing lab capability.”
The majority of the work Tectonic does
is performed in a tri-state area that includes
New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
