EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
A New Year and New
Opportunities
By Frank Peters, Executive Director, PDCA
Time is a commodity and should be treated like any
other asset we have available. Does time fly or does it
move faster at certain times and slower at others? It
certainly seems that way. Last year was a blur. From start to finish,
the year flew by, whether time did or not. It was almost as if
we had just gotten started when it was time to wrap things up,
wish everyone happy holidays and sing Auld Lang Syne. It makes
your head spin.
Last year was a significant time as PDCA took strong steps to
position itself for the future. The organization worked hard last
year to not only keep the ball rolling but also to keep its eye on the
ball. When we say the “organization,” we are talking about everyone
who has a role in helping PDCA move forward. This includes
the officers, Board of Directors, committee members, association
members and staff. Everyone has a part, and everyone spent a
considerable amount of time and worked hard last year to position
the organization for this point in time. As much as we could look
backward and realize all that has been accomplished, it is just as
important, if not more so, to look ahead and realize the opportunities
that are available.
A significant part of PDCA’s effort last year was the time we took
to build relationships with others in the deep foundation industry
so that our organization would have the opportunity to tell its
story. PDCA represents one segment of the deep foundation construction
industry. Even though it is a small part, we believe it is the
most reliable segment of the industry, and the slogan “A Driven Pile
Is A Tested Pile” sums up this belief. We also believe that if PDCA
is not “there” to tell this story that someone else will tell it for us,
and they are probably not going to tell our story – about the most
reliable process in the deep foundation industry – but they will
tell “their” story. PDCA has to take the time and make itself available
to tell its important story. This is no less true going forward,
and in fact, it is critical that these relationships that give us this
opportunity to tell our story are fostered and grow. A relationship
is not about what we can take but what we can give. We believe
very strongly that PDCA and its membership have a lot to give
to the deep foundation industry. So, we will continue our efforts
and budget the time to seek out, build and grow
our relationships with other organizations in the
deep foundation industry.
It’s time to look ahead
