You’ve got to be kidding me!
By now, most members of the Pile Driving
Contractors Association have heard of
the infamous fundraiser by the Pacific
Coast Chapter: the dirty joke competition. Each
year, the chapter meets and participants take turns
telling the group a dirty joke. Fines are levied to
the joke tellers for a multitude of reasons, and the
fines help to raise funds for the chapter scholarship
fund. For example, at the 2019 competition, a new
chapter member tried to read his joke from a printout
and was met with an uproar of discouragement
and fines (but was able to deliver a fantastic joke
without his crib sheet in the end!).
At the chapter’s most recent event in December,
34 people attended with 33 braving the crowd to
tell a joke. One of the scholarship awardees even
attended and delivered one of the best jokes of the
night. According to the chapter, telling jokes in
front of peers has developed into a rite of passage
for many who attend. t
