“Building things seems to be
easy nowadays compared to
finding and training the right
personnel for our business.”
– Jay Boyd
also Boyd’s supervisor. And it was Eskins
who gave the ambitious crane operator
more responsibility and an ever-expanding
job description.
“The union doesn’t want you to
do anything that’s not in your job
classification,” said Boyd. “But I was always
wanting to help the pile drivers. I wanted
to learn what they did, and Bill allowed
me to do that.”
Boyd’s curiosity and appetite for more
experience and knowledge fueled his
career growth and it wasn’t long before
Eskins made Boyd the foreman of a piledriving
crew.
“That one opportunity was followed
by many others that gave me the
experience needed to one day be a general
superintendent,” said Boyd.
All in a day’s work
Boyd will be the first to tell you that
dealing with personnel issues is not his
greatest strength. And to complicate
matters, he has around 400 individuals
that report to him.
“Building things seems to be easy
nowadays compared to finding and
training the right personnel for our
business,” said Boyd.
