In 2017, Power Engineering Construction Company (PEC),
a PDCA member and heavy civil and marine contractor,
was awarded the design-build contract for the new $74-million
downtown San Francisco ferry terminal. PEC specializes
in complex construction on water and land, and was awarded
the contract by the San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency
Transportation Authority (WETA).
WETA – which is a regional public transit agency tasked with
operating and expanding ferry service on the San Francisco Bay
and with coordinating the water transit response to regional emergencies
– awarded the project in two phases. Phase 1 included the
demolition of San Francisco’s Pier 2, dredging of the WETA downtown
ferry terminal turning basin and installation of 154 largediameter
steel pilings. Phase 2 includes all remaining pile driving
and ferry terminal construction.
