Atlantic Metrocast produces its
high-quality precast/pre-stressed concrete
foundation piles at three plants located in
New Orleans, Portsmouth, Va., and La
Plata, Md. All are certified by the Precast
Concrete Institute.
Atlantic Metrocast’s piles are made
using advanced self-consolidating concrete
technology that results in a superior, highstrength
Each foundation pile also contains a
large amount of steel, pre-stressed during
the manufacturing process, making the finished
product sturdier still. “It makes that
piece very, very strong,” said Crossman.
Large pilings, girders and beams made
out of concrete can be expensive to transport,
so most of Atlantic Metrocast’s customers
are within a couple hundred miles
of the company’s manufacturing plants.
“We do have barge facilities at our
plant in Virginia, so we will actually barge
products up and down the coast if there’s
a job that we’re interested in,” Crossman
said. “We can reach a little bit further by
water that way.”
Centrally located in St. Louis, MO, the
complete line of MKT Pile driving and
Drilling equipment has been providing
quality, U.S. made products to contractors
throughout the Nation since 1986.

The company’s most popular offerings
are 12- and 14-inch square piles. “Our largest
volume would be those sized piles, and
they can be used in a lot of different scenarios,”
said Crossman.
Roots in wood treatment business
Atlantic Metrocast’s roots go back to
1901, when Atlantic Wood Industries was
founded in New Orleans by Crossman’s
great-grandfather.
“It was a wood treating business,
making railroad ties, foundation piling,
bridge timbers and a lot of utility poles,”
said Crossman.
In 1995, Atlantic Metrocast was created
as a subsidiary of Atlantic Wood
Industries and, since then, it’s become the
chief operating arm of the business.
“We started just making 12-inch
square piles initially to supplement our
wood business and to supply the contractors.
Since then, we got into the bridge
business and started making other products
aside from foundation piles, and
it’s just become bigger and bigger,” said
Crossman, adding that the company’s
wood division was sold off five years ago.
Crossman maintains that experience,
strong leadership and customer service
are keys to Atlantic Metrocast’s success.
“I think we have a highly professional,
very experienced and seasoned team.
Our executives have all been in the business
collectively a long time,” he said, adding
that Atlantic Metrocast has engineers
on staff who are able to value-engineer the
company’s foundation piles and make sure
every product is made properly.
“We’re in the construction business
and that’s not always the easiest business
to be in because of the varying factors that
