FARM SAFETY
making a right turn, it’s good practice to slowly move over to
straddle the centre line FSP says.
“Impatient drivers following slow moving equipment can
try to attempt an unsafe pass, so doing this provides less space
to go around,” FSP said.
Escort vehicles
Producers need to know when escort (or pilot) vehicles are
required on Manitoba highways. Escort vehicles are unneces-sary
for any implements or farm tractors being operated or
towed on a highway for agricultural purposes, the Manitoba
government says.
Further, escort vehicles are not required for agricultural
equipment up to 6.1 metres wide, when loaded on a trailer
and hauled to and/or from a farm, so long as the load doesn’t
protrude over the centre line of the highway, the province says.
Also, escort vehicles are required if a piece of agricultural
equipment has malfunctioning lighting.
Otherwise, one front escort vehicle is required on a two or
four lane non-divided highway, and an additional rear escort
vehicle if it’s a four-lane divided highway, FSP says. All trailer
loads exceeding 6.1 metres in width require one front and one
rear escort on all highways. >>
