“Continuous technological development
is a part of everyday life and the pile driving
industry is no exception. Over the
decades, changes in materials, construction
techniques, equipment and testing
have broadened the choices in the marketplace
and steadily increased value
to owners. The real change, though, has
been in the amount of available information,
and how it has driven interaction
between the various parties.
In 1995, heavy internet and email
use was confined to college campuses
and technology companies. Most people,
and certainly not the piling industry,
did not view it as a source for news and
innovation. Information was obtained
through magazines, trade shows and
visits from company sales representatives.
Engineers and contractors had
started using CAD software, but drawings
and specifications were printed and
shipped. Revisions were marked up on
and returned via mail or courier.
A few years later, as people started
using email and cell phones on a daily
basis, it sped up the transfer of information.
Most companies had also launched
rudimentary websites with literature
on their products and services. By 2005,
drawings, specifications and proposals
were flying around the internet, and over
the next 15 years it only got faster. The
availability of information allowed people
to share ideas like never before.
Nucor Skyline uses technology as an
opportunity to develop new shapes and
steel grades, and promote innovative construction
techniques to our customers
and engineers. As good ideas have blossomed
over the years, we have learned
what works and what doesn’t in different
conditions and strive to inform our
customers and engineering partners of
how they can save time and money. We
do our best to link our customers’ success
to our success by pushing efficiency
on our projects so our customers and the
downstream owners get the most value
for their dollar.”
