EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
Happy Anniversary,
By Frank T. Peters, Executive Director, PDCA
We Americans – and most
of the civilized world, for
that matter – have made
a pastime out of recognizing and celebrating
events, milestones and anniversaries.
For the most part it is just that: a pastime.
But every now and then, something
comes along that is truly worth recognizing
and celebrating and this is one of those
times. Did you know that the Pile Driving
Contractors Association is 25 years old?
Think about that. Twenty-five years! For the
past 25 years, PDCA has been promoting
the driven pile as the preferred method for
deep foundation solutions. There are many
reasons why this particular anniversary is
worth celebrating and why PDCA members
should take notice.
In its beginning, PDCA was formed out
of a desire, a need, by individuals in the pile
driving business for recognition, advocacy,
education and support. These purposes
continue today and have grown into many
of the services that PDCA offers to its members
and the industry.
Most notably, the PDCA founders wanted
pile driving to be recognized for its significant
merit as a substantial deep foundation
method. Pile driving has been around
for thousands of years, and while it may
be a small segment of the deep foundation
industry, we strongly believe it is the most
reliable and the best alternative to the other
processes that have only been around for
maybe a hundred or so years.
The longevity and reliability factor for
pile driving cannot be argued. The other
processes simply can’t compete in these
categories. We, of course, have to acknowledge
that pile driving cannot be used in
every application. But where pile driving
can be used, it should be used – that is the
strong belief held by PDCA members.
For 25 years, PDCA has been providing
the industry with the recognition that pile
