PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
engineers and contractors on the benefits
of a quality, driven pile project. Our Market
Development and Education Committees
shoulder the responsibility for our conferences.
When face-to-face meetings are not
possible, you can count on our committees
to offer quality content and an excellent
experience through a virtual platform. I’ve
said it before, but it bears repeating – I
always take away something that’s more
valuable than the time and expense invested.
It doesn’t hurt that I have a great time in
the process. Please join me in saying thanks
to our member-lead committees for putting
together a fantastic education program
each and every year!
PileDriver magazine is published six
times per year and is estimated to be read
by more than 7,500 individuals every issue.
The Communications Committee is responsible
for managing this asset for PDCA and
is always looking for members interested
in telling the driven pile story from exploration,
design, testing and installation. Do
you have a design, project or practice that
our readership would benefit from understanding
in a greater way? Please reach out
to the Communications Committee and
offer your story and expertise.
The pages of this 25th anniversary
PileDriver edition are filled with wisdom
and a reminder of the good work of the
association in the past, present and future.
The driven pile industry is a proud and special
group. Our membership is comprised of
some of the most innovative and resourceful
companies in the construction industry.
Collectively, we use specialized equipment
to install plant manufactured deep foundation
elements to consistently and quantifiably
resist massive structural loads. The
impact that experienced contractors, engineers
and associates have on each other
when working collectively towards a better
value is undeniable. What role did your
company play in PDCA’s first 25 years and
what role will it fill in its next 25?
PDCA has grown tremendously in its
membership and its offerings over the past
25 years. While its growth may test the
limits of both staff and volunteers at times,
its membership and benefactors sleep
well at night knowing that “a driven pile
is a tested pile.” Thanks to all who make
the efforts of the Pile Driving Contractors
Association possible.
Stay safe. Stay driven! t
Feedback from a
Founding Father
PDCA received this email recently
from Chuck Whiteaker, one of the
“founding fathers” of PDCA:
“I can’t think of any great stories, nor
do I have pictures. However, I do
have one overlooked thing to tell you
about. In my mind, I felt I furnished the
bones on which PDCA was built. But,
more importantly, it was Professor
George Goble who furnished the
flesh. It was his technical knowledge
and contributions that moved the
organization forward and gave
its members the information they
needed to promote the driven pile.
Also, we had some great presidents
who worked hard to unify and
organize the pile drivers throughout
the country. It was a ‘team’
accomplishment. I am now almost
90 and the old memory isn’t as sharp
as it once was, but I know one thing
– ‘A Driven Pile, is a Tested Pile!’”
