Florida’s massive I-4 Ultimate Improvement Project
At any given time, there are typically many infrastructure construction
projects going on in Florida, which continues to be
one of the fastest-growing states in the nation.
The biggest project underway in the Sunshine State today is the
I-4 Ultimate Improvement Project – a massive $2.3 billion plan to
rebuild a 21-mile section of the heavily traversed Interstate 4 (I-4)
running through Orlando, Fla.
Construction on the I-4 Ultimate, as it’s known, first started in
February 2015 and is expected to wrap up by the end of 2021. By the
time it’s completed, the following will have been achieved:
•• Reconstruction of 15 major interchanges
•• Widening of 13 bridges, addition of 53 new bridges and
replacement of 74 bridges, for a total of 140
•• Rebuilding all general use and auxiliary lanes
•• Addition of four variable priced toll express lanes
