– $500,000 to $2 Million
By Marty Corcoran, Corman Marine Construction
Corman Marine was awarded this emergency in-river sheet
pile project in the middle of January 2015 with a pile
driving in-water moratorium two months later on March
14. With no time to waste, the project team procured material,
mobilized cranes and crews to the plant and started work within
two weeks of Notice of Award. Within a few days after mobilizing
on site, an extremely cold weather system threw a curve with
frigid cold temperatures setting up a severe icing condition on
the Delaware River, threatening to damage and/or destroy waterbased
equipment needed for the project. The project team sprang
into action by removing the equipment from the project site into
a nearby safe harbor. After nearly four weeks of continuous cold
temperatures and not being able to access the site, Corman Marine
resumed work two weeks from the looming March pile driving inriver
moratorium deadline.
Corman Marine worked with DuPont and NJDEP Fish and
Wildlife to extend the pile driving moratorium deadline to the end
of March. Getting back an additional two weeks gave the project
