The GeoCoalition, a group of geo-construction and geo-engineering
associations, including PDCA, G-I of the ASCE, ADSC,
DFI, GBA, AEG and USUCGER, met in Garden City, N.Y. on
June 21 and 22. The purpose of the GeoCoalition is to address
issues of mutual concern among the various organizations. This
year, the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS) attended the meeting
and was invited to be the newest member of the GeoCoalition.
The coalition members discussed several issues at this year’s
meeting. One issue that has a significant impact on the deregulation
of professional services is Arizona making the licensure of
geologists optional, and they are considering engineer licensing to
be optional as well. Additional discussions included the ISSMGE
2025 conference, G-I and PDCA coordinating on educational content
for G-I members, IFCEE 2018 and other topics more specific
to one-on-one association issues.
In 2017, PDCA will host the GeoCoalition meeting, with confirmation
on the location announced in mid-August 2016.
PDCA will conduct its 17th Annual Design and Installation
of Cost-Efficient Piles (DICEP) conference at the Charleston
Marriott in Charleston, S.C., September 21 to 22, 2017. The
conference includes the PDCA of South Carolina Chapter, South
Carolina Ports and the Geo-Institute of ASCE as cooperating
sponsors. The conference will include interesting session presentations
on case histories, technical advancements, business development
and innovative approaches and solutions to foundation issues.
And don’t miss the seminar on “Using Steel Bearing Piles and
Sheet Walls in Infrastructure,” presented by PDCA in cooperation
with Skyline Steel Company. This one-day seminar will be held on
August 10, 2016, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Tampa Airport in
Westshore, Tampa, Fla.

I am no psychic, but in this
case the prediction seemed
to be right on target. There
is no question that PDCA’s
20th annual conference was
