Hard work and expertise are behind the growth in reputation and
success of PND Engineers, Inc.
PND Engineers, Inc., a full-service
U.S. civil-structural engineering
firm, has been a member of PDCA
for over 15 years, sharing research and
project information, taking part in the association’s
annual awards program – most
recently winning the 2014 award for Project
of the Year in the marine category
($2 million to $5 million) for the Boswell
Unit 4 Open Cell Sheet Pile Bulkhead
in Minnesota.
“Our work often directly involves piling
contractors,” said PND president, Jim
Campbell. “We do a lot of waterfront projects
across North America, including bridges,
docks and temporary, supported excavations
requiring pile foundations. And we
continue to be involved a great deal in the
Arctic and remote locations.”
The company had its beginnings in
Alaska, founded in Anchorage in 1979 by
Roy Peratrovich and Dennis Nottingham,
two of the initials that make up the company
name. Extensive experience and knowledge
gained from working in the unforgiving
climate of the north have put PND Engineers
at the forefront of Arctic engineering,
where design and implementation grapple
with such obstacles as severe cold, heavy
snow loads and spring breakup. Two
years of research recently conducted
with Conoco Phillips on driven piles in
permafrost solidified PND’s knowledge
base and long-standing reputation for
arctic foundations.
“A lot of what makes PND unique is
what we’ve learned over the years to execute
pile driving in remote areas,” said PND vice
president, Jon Keiser. “If we can get it done
in remote, cold areas, it makes it that much
easier and efficient to get it done almost
anywhere else.”
This extensive northern experience has
led to opportunities beyond the Pacific
Northwest and Alaska. In 2015, PND
opened a new office in Houston, Texas,
as the company increases its work with
oil companies.
“We wanted better contact with these
companies,” said Campbell. “Also, within
the last few years, we have been doing a lot
of work in Texas and Louisiana that fits well
with our expertise.”
