For those guest subscribers to
PileDriver magazine who are not PDCA
members, I urge you to consider joining
this year. Membership has a lot of services
and benefits that you do not get simply
through your guest subscription.
Why not make this your New Year’s
resolution – one that is easy to keep.
Renew or join PDCA today.
Let me discuss an indirect benefit
to PDCA membership, but one that
will quickly become a direct benefit. The
PDCA Technical Committee has now
submitted all of their revisions to the IBC,
Section 1810, Soils and Foundations. The
committee, chaired by Dale Biggers with
Boh Bros., submitted 48 changes (submittals),
with many submittals containing
multiple changes. Altogether, the committee
submitted over 75 revisions. The
process of reviewing the existing section,
discussing changes, coming to a consensus
on the change, writing the change and
the justification for the change and then
submitting the proposed change to the
International Code Council’s (ICC) website
took over three years – anything but a
simple process.
The direct benefit will be the acceptance
of the revisions and the changes
to the code that will go into effect upon
the ICC approval. The PDCA Technical
Committee’s dedication to this effort
will have far-reaching benefits to PDCA
members.
PDCA should be acknowledged for
taking the lead and beginning the revision
process, utilizing the resources of its
members on the Technical Committee,
recognizing the benefit of resources outside
of PDCA and ultimately creating
a multi-association coalition of 35 representatives
to conduct the review process.
Without the support of your PDCA
membership, progress like this becomes
much more difficult.
Another direct benefit of PDCA
membership is the opportunity to network,
socialize and learn from and with fellow
pile drivers. This edition of PileDriver
magazine contains a wealth of information
about the PDCA’s 20th Annual
International Conference & Expo 2016.
Inside, you can read all about the conference,
being held in New Orleans. Flip to
page 37 to review the conference brochure.
I look forward to seeing you all in
New Orleans in May, and encourage all
PDCA members and PileDriver readers to
attend. It will be an event not to miss. t
