PDCA YOUNG GUN
ICE®’s southeast and Midwest territories,
is working hands-on with Randolph in
selling in the industry.
Next steps
One of the aspects of his job that is now
coming more to the surface for Randolph is
his involvement in PDCA. The association
has increasingly become one of his focus
areas as he takes a renewed approach to
being a problem solver within the industry.
“My time in the very near future is
going to be networking, and PDCA is
going to be a huge networking opportunity
for me,” he said. “I’m not just looking for
customers, I’m looking for solutions, and
that’s what I see working with PDCA –
together, providing ICE®’s customers with
that network of all the solution providers
that are possible. I love ICE®, I want to sell
their equipment, but when it comes right
down to it, I want to help the guy who has
the problem, and I want to be the guy that
solves it.”
With a long career still ahead of him,
Randolph keeps an eye on the future of piling.
As part of this vision, he sees that the
industry will face challenges with government
projects but, as upward construction
continues, there will be a larger need for

when issues come up for whomever, whether

That ability has helped in ICE® customer
relations across the globe. Though
Randolph’s title is Midwest region sales
and service manager, his duties include
working with clients in areas such as
Singapore, China, Brazil, Venezuela and
other international destinations.
“When you get to see that amount
of the world in a short period of time
with a company like this, there are hardly
any positions that can compare,” said
Randolph. “It’s given me the opportunity
to see a lot of things, do a lot of things that
I wouldn’t have done anywhere else.”
So how did the transition come, then,
from hydraulics to piling? As Randolph
explains, he was working with equipment
across ICE®’s yard and with so many
people with different mechanical issues.
Though he was still focused on hydraulics,
he was a sponge when it came to listening
to concerns about piling. Along the
way, he was mentored by individuals like
Mike Clark, King Evarts, Rick Sadler, Bill
Spatz, Kevin Kane, Mike Douglas, Colin
Brooks, Tony Graham and Brad Sullivan.
Currently, Eric Ebel, the senior advisor for
Company Certificates Associate Memberships
big piling projects.
“There are a lot of states that are having
issues with pension funds and retirements.
They are in the red. That’s going to
slow down what they’re doing with roads
and bridges, which is going to affect all of
us in piling,” he said. “As far as your regular
sheeting, shoring work – that sort of thing
– that’s stable depending on your ups and
downs in construction. There’s always going
to be a need for that. But the big, heavy,
deep, caisson piling is really growing.” t
