installed 2,500 lineal feet of sheet
pile floodwall around the southern
and northern portion of the City
of Tacoma’s Central Wastewater
Treatment Plant. The contract
involved construction of five floodgates,
three of which are automated.
IMCO also utilizes 3D modeling
technology so that field personnel
can see what they are constructing
with a better perspective. This
reduces the possibility for mistakes,
increasing productivity and helping
to ensure accuracy of fieldwork.
IMCO project teams use BIM in
lieu of coordinated shop drawings.
This allows dramatic time saving and
heightened accuracy.
IMCO General Construction
was founded in 1978 by Frank and
Patti Imhof. Frank Imhof is currently
the CEO, and his son-in-law, Tyler
Kimberley, has been IMCO president
for two years. Under secondgeneration
leadership, this familyowned
company has increased strategy
and vision for the future while
preserving the core values that the
company has been built on. In 2010,
the corporate office moved from
Bellingham to a beautiful new LEED
certified office and shop building
in Ferndale, Wash., just south of
the Canadian boarder. IMCO performs
work across the northwest, in
Montana and on the island of Guam.
IMCO is just beginning their
largest single contract to date, the
$120-million I-90 Two-Way Transit
and HOV Operations Project, in
Seattle, Wash. The contract is part
of a $220-million project administered
by the Washington State
Department of Transportation
(WSDOT). The project, funded by
WSDOT, Sound Transit and the
federal government, will bring significant
improvements to regional
mobility as it is adding HOV lanes
and direct-access ramps for transit
and HOVs on Mercer Island and
in Bellevue. A major component is
infrastructure needed to build the
Sound Transit East Link light extension
from Seattle to Mercer Island,
Bellevue and Redmond. t
