The PDCA of South Carolina
Chapter conducted their fourth quarterly
meeting on Dec. 2, 2014 at the
Town & Country Inn in Charleston,
S.C. The featured speaker was Mr.
Alwyn McDowall of Skyline Steel. He
discussed the benefits of steel H-piles,
including the relatively new 16-inch
and 18-inch sections. He also spoke on
the topic of designing for durability in
steel structures and the steps that can be taken during the design
and construction phases to ensure a long service life for steel structures.
Skyline Steel also sponsored the meeting.
The chapter was also pleased to present the 2014 Mac
Nigels Scholarship Award to Cadet Evan M. Grant of The
Citadel at their December meeting. Cadet Grant, whose home
is in Kentucky, is a member of The Citadel’s Class of 2016,
majors in civil and environmental engineering and has earned
a GPA of 3.92.
Also present at the meeting was the first-ever recipient of
the Mac Nigels Scholarship Award, Taylor Rodgers. Taylor
received his scholarship award in 2006 and is now employed
by Santee Cooper. He is also currently working on his Master’s
degree at The Citadel.
The South Carolina Chapter hosted their annual Oyster
Roast on Jan. 23, 2015 at Palmetto Pile Driving in Charleston.
This event draws from the regional pile driving community and
related industries.

The Gulf Coast Chapter
hosted their fourth quarterly
meeting on Nov. 13, 2014
at Messina’s Restaurant
in Kenner, La. The featured
speaker was Mr.
Shat Kulkarni, an attorney
with the Coats|Rose Law
Firm. Consolidated Pipe &
Supply Company was the meeting sponsor.
The chapter also elected new officers for 2015. The new
officers are:
President: Brian Hill, Baker Pile Driving
Vice-President: Dean Story, Cajun Deep Foundations
Treasurer: Sean Spatz, ICE® – International Construction
Equipment
Secretary: Mike Devillier, Alpha Testing
