Growing with the
Driven Pile Industry
The driven pile industry is a growing one and Doug
Ford, business development manager at Skyline
Steel, intends to grow right alongside it
Doug Ford, who was born and
raised in Toledo, Ohio, began college
at Bowling Green State University,
unsure what to pursue as a major.
After a few semesters, he decided to switch
to the University of Toledo to focus on civil
engineering. Once armed with a Bachelor
of Science degree in civil engineering, Ford
started his career off in Florida, working on
the design side at Landmark Engineering &
Surveying Corporation. As a project manager,
he oversaw a small team of designers
and worked on residential and commercial
development.
The job was a challenge, but Ford
soon found he wanted more interaction
with clients. It was clear to him he was better
suited for a career in sales. His former
boss put a good word in for him with a
supply company in the stormwater industry
called StormTrap, which enabled a
smooth transition into a sales role using the
design experience he gained at Landmark
Engineering.
“It was a great place to work, grow
and get my feet wet in a sales engineering
role,” he said.
It was a bit of luck that brought Ford
into the driven pile industry in 2010, after
four years at StormTrap. One day a recruiter
called, speaking very highly of the steel
industry and of Skyline Steel.
“I wasn’t looking to leave, but after a
few phone calls and interviews I took the
job and haven’t looked back,” he said. “I love
the industry and everyone in it.”
